LingPhil - Norwegian Graduate Researcher School in Linguistics and Philology

Awarded: NOK 21.6 mill.

The main aim of the graduate training school in linguistics and philology has been to provide young researchers with a broad training in theories and research methods in linguistics and philology by offering a high quality, structured course programme that complemented and deepened the training courses offered locally by each of the individual participating institutions. The Norwegian situation in the field is such that expertise is often fragmented and isolated at the local level. Bringing in experts from multiple fields, the national researcher school has offered training that varies in breadth and depth of scale, thus ensuring both a broader understanding of linguistics and philology as research fields, as well as in-depth knowledge of more specific sub-disciplines within these fields. The graduate school has also allowed for the development of the kind of interdisciplinary competencies that are sought after in both society and academia today. Furthermore, the school has provided training that develops generic and transferable skills to ensure that students are able to meet the demands of an increasingly demanding and diverse international workplace, both within and outside of academia.

LingPhil has achieved its stated objectives: - Clearly has provided added value to the local study programs - LingPhil activities are perceived as relevant by a majority of the PhD candidates. - LingPhil has provided contacts both on national and international levels. - LingPhil has achieved sustained focus on career guidance and developing generic skills. - LingPhil has provided meeting points for supervisors through dedicated supervisor seminars.
