Security Tools and Techniques for Internet of Things in E-Health

Awarded: NOK 32,740

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a complex "system of systems" including sensors, RFID, communication systems, data processing tools and other components essential for observing the status of patients and analyzing the data gathered through various sensing infrastructures. Health organizations may deploy IoT-based services to enhance traditional medical services and reduce delay for treatment of critical patients. This provides multiple useful features including real-time access to patient data. However, t he nature of the IoT makes the underlying e-health systems vulnerable to various kinds of network attacks. The workshop on "Security Tools and techniques for Internet of Things in E-Health" will explore the status of Body Area Networks (BANs), their integ ration into IoT, and distributed security systems in e-health systems. The discussion will focus on the ability to use risk management methodologies, preventive countermeasures, reactive security solutions, and crowd sourcing approaches to help building a secure framework for timely and widespread communication of patient data. Additionally, we will address security policies for IoT in e-health applications and discuss security requirements and standards to allow for secure and reliable usability of BANs.
