The XyloPack project works with development of future carton packaging for liquid food packaging just like juice. The objective is to replace parts of the petro-based plastic materials on the fiberboard with materials from renewable sources These materials can be derived from cultivation of grain. XyloPack project have evaluated different alternative additives for improvement of water vapour barrier and oxygen barrier and adhesion properties in laminate structure. The project which started with lab scale tests has succeded to run full scale industrial testing. The objective of the project has been fullfilled.
The aim of the project is to develop a sustainable xylan-based oxygen barrier with low oxygen permeability at elevated humidity. The modified barrier will be evaluated as a multilayer laminate, for the use as liquid packaging, by a large industrial partne r to test the proof of concept.
