The BIONÆR project 225350 Iwood aims at developing new technology for producing wood fiber based insulation products in Norway. A successful project will initiate production of wood fiber-based insulation products in Norway directed towards the Scandinavian insulation market. Hunton Fiber has been project owner for iWood whereas RISE PFI has been R&D partner in the project. Key innovations which have been developed in the project is a new mechanical pretreatment process for production of wood fibers suitable for wood fibre insulation products and a new wood fibre insulation mat quality which can be compressed prior to transportation and storage. In addition, unique laboratory mat former suitable for airlaid mat forming of various fibre materials has been established at RISE PFI. This technique will be an unique tool for developing new mat and board products based on airlaid mat forming technology. Hunton Fiber has decided to establish production of wood fiber insulation in Norway. The production site will be located close to Hunton Fiber's existing production site for producing Hunton windproof board at Gjøvik. Hunton Fiber wants to be a leading actor within sustainable wood based building materials in Norway and the efforts in developing new wood-based building products is a key element to achieve this goal.
