Norwegian centre for Minimally invasive Image guided Therapy and medical technologies.

The overall main objective of NorMIT (Norwegian centre for Minimally invasive Image guided Therapy and medical technologies) is to improve patient care by development of medical technology and methods giving less trauma for patients, improved safety and quality in treatment as well as shorter hospital and rehabilitation time. This will lead to cost effective solutions for society and health care providers. In order to fulfill the objectives of NorMIT, existing infrastructure at The Future Operating Room (FOR) at St. Olavs hospital/NTNU and at The Interventional Centre (IVS) at Oslo University Hospital has been upgraded to a national research infrastructure based on close national collaboration and sharing of strategic priorities. NorMIT is an infrastructure for research within medical technology with focus on research within minimally invasive image-guided therapy, training/simulation for optimal patient treatment and workflow and communication. The NorMIT overall ambition is to be an attractive research infrastructure for clinical and interdisciplinary technological and translational research in Europe, both by industrial as well as by academic collaborators. The need for NorMIT is supported by a considerably amount of stakeholders, including academia, industry and hospitals both nationally and internationally. NorMIT will be recognized by frontiers in interdisciplinary scientific research shown by publications in international scientific journals, innovation in health care, product development meeting clinical user demands, substantial contract based research projects from industry, faster market entry for industrial products, Norwegian participation and leadership in EU projects and programs, as well as education of both clinical and technological PhDs and PostDocs. Alternative budget scenarios and related deliveries of NorMIT are specified including a full budget with 107,6 mill NOK funding from the Research Council as well as a minimum budget of 53,9 mill NOK funding
