Towards a coordinated Research and Monitoring Programme for Ny-Ålesund (workshop support)

Awarded: NOK 0.12 mill.

The Ny-Ålesund Science Plan states that Ny-Ålesund shall be developed as a premier international Arctic research and monitoring facility. This workshop will bring together representatives of the four flagship programmes for Ny-Ålesund (marine biology, ter restrial ecology, glaciology and atmospheric science) to take the first steps towards implementation of one coordinated, multi-disciplinary Research and Monitoring Programme for Ny-Ålesund. The programme, which will follow an earth observation approach, w ill advance Ny-Ålesund as a prime reference point for the study of climate change in the Arctic. The main goal of the meeting will be to promote coordination of scientific activities, push for efficient use of research facilities and encourage open data s haring. As such the strategic objectives of the Svalbard Science Forum (SSF) and the mission statement of the Ny-Ålesund Science Managers Committee (NySMAC) will form a central part of the workshop.
