Comparative Study of Gender Segregation in VET - institutional and individual perspectives

Awarded: NOK 0.15 mill.

The main aim of the project will be to plan and arrange a workshop on comparative studies of gender segregation in VET with the aim to publish a refereed edited volume with 7-10 articles on the subject. The proposed publication project brings together res earchers from two projects with support from Utdanning2020 and several international researchers in the field. We propose a refereed edited volume of original research papers about gender segregation in vocational education and training (VET) from a compa rative perspective. The projects "Safety-VET: Qualification and Social Inclusion in Upper Secondary VET -Longitudinal Studies on Gendered Education and Marginalized Groups" and "Educational Trajectories: Choices, Constraints and Contexts" thematically o verlap on the topic of gendered educational choices in upper secondary and tertiary education. Both projects already have an international comparative component. The proposed edited volume would build upon these comparative analyses, bringing them togethe r with similar analyses from other countries, with the aim to shed light on the relationship between gendered educational choices and the various institutional contexts. The external contributions will be selected as part of an already planned paper sessi on at the International Sociological Association's (ISA) World Congress in Yokohama Japan in July 2014. We already have an offer from the publication series Comparative Social Research for guest editorship in a volume with a possible publication date in 2015, see attachment. The contribution from Utdanning2020 would enable us to organize a workshop with the authors in the fall of 2014 and give us the extra time to properly coordinate and administer the project in its initial phases.
