EIR - an eHealth solution in cancer palliative care

Alternative title: EIR - en eHelse løsning innen palliativ kreftbehandling

Awarded: NOK 4.0 mill.

Eir is a web-based communication platform for use within clinical oncology aiming at improving and standardising: symptom management, presentation of symptoms to health care providers, evidence-based decision support. Eir is primarily based on patientrep orted outcomes such as subjective symptoms, functioning and quality of life. Eir aims to enhance patient?centered communication and treatment by facilitating an optimal exchange of information between the patient and health care providers in different par ts of the health care system (primary care and specialists). This information from the patient is wirelessly transferred to the physicians desktop computer before the patient consultation. Hence, the physician is provided an overview of the symptoms and complaints of the patient prior to the consultation and able to focus on the patients main concerns. The software processes the information provided by the patients to generate decision support for the physician. The decision support is based on internat ionally acknowledged treatment guidelines. Eir should not be a transfer of traditional paper-and-pen questionnaires to screens. Rather, it is an aim to make a communication tool that enabled a dynamic interaction between user and Eir.
