Risikofylt lek i alderen 0-3 år

This project's primary goal is to develop knowledge about children aged 0-3 years in Norwegian pre-schools. The study's thematic focus will be on children's risky play, i.e., children's ability and willingness to take physical risks in play. The study wil l examine (1) the characteristics of risky play in this age group, (2) how teachers interact with children in risky play, and (3) how risky play can be interpreted as a general sign of good quality in Norwegian pre-schools. Interaction between teacher and child is fundamental to children's development and well-being, and interaction in relation to risky play is also challenged by aspects such as anxiety and fear, both in the child and in the teacher. Findings from the project will be used to improve the u nderstanding of the youngest children's needs and development and provide a basis for improved practice in pre-schools for this age group. Children's risky play and the related interaction will be investigated empirically, through video observations, to examine both supportive and constraining factors. Risky play, as an expression of quality, will be examined by comparing the qualitative observations with a quantitative measurement tool (ITERs - R). This PhD study will be associated with the research pro ject BePro (Better Provision of Norway's Children in Early Years Education and Care) which will examine how Norwegian pre-schools affect children; what characterizes good pre-schools and what factors affect children's well-being, achievement and developme nt. BePro is a collaboration between Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Science, University of Stavanger, Vestfold University College, University of Nordland (amongst others), and is funded by the Norwegian Research Council through UTDANNING2 020. The project is a longitudinal study that will study 1,600 children through pre-school (over four years), with the possibility to study the children's further education process.

Studien vil se nærmere på (1)hva som kjennetegner risikofylt lek i denne aldersgruppen, (2)hvordan barnehagen samhandler med barn i risikofylt lek, og (3)hvordan risikofylt lek kan tolkes som et generelt tegn på god kvalitet i norske barnehager. Samspill mellom omsorgsperson og barn er grunnleggende for barnets utvikling og trivsel, og i tilfelle risikofylt lek er samspillet også utfordret med aspekter som angst og frykt, både hos barn og hos omsorgsperson. Barns risikofylte lek og tilhørende samspill vil bli undersøkt empirisk, gjennom videoobservasjoner, for å undersøke både støttende og begrensende faktorer.Risikofylt lek, som et uttrykk for kvalitet vil bli undersøkt gjennom en triangulering av funnene fra de kvalitative observasjonene med et kvantita tivt måleverktøy (ITERS - R).Denne ph.d.-studien er planlagt å være assosiert med forskningsprosjektet GoBaN ("Gode barnehager for barn i Norge/ Better Provision of Norway's Children in Early Years Education and Care") som vil undersøke hvordan norske bar nehager påvirker barnehagebarn, hva som karakteriserer en god barnehage og hvilke faktorer som påvirker barnas trivsel, måloppnåelse og utvikling. GoBaN er et samarbeidsprosjekt mellom Høgskolen i Oslo og Akershus (HiOA), Universitetet i Stavanger (UiS), Høgskolen i Vestfold (HiVe), Universitetet i Nordland, m.fl., og er finansiert av Forskningsrådet gjennom Utdanning2020. Prosjektet er en longitudinell studie som vil følge 1600 barns liv i barnehagen og deres barnehager over fire år, fra barna er to år t il de begynner på skolen, med en mulig forlengelse videre fremover i utdanningsforløpet. Denne ph.d.-studien vil få tilgang til data fra GoBaN prosjektet og bli en del av nettverket av stipendiater og forskere knyttet til prosjektet.
