New technology changes the retail sector, affecting how the retail supply chain will be managed and operated, as well as how consumer will act and buy groceries. Automation and digitalization will lead to radical changes and innovations in retailing, in which the sector will benefit by new market concepts, smarter logistics and flows, autonomous and intelligent solutions, new processes and advanced planning and control models. The focus of RSC2020 is on the food sector due to the specific challenges that the product characteristics impose on logistics. The results achieved in the Retail Supply Chain 2020 project are: Employee development program: program for developing mangers and key personnel in wholesale operations, leading to methodology and knowledge platforms applied for training existing and new employees for increased performance. Dialogue arena: a framework and methodology for developing an arena for discussions between the supply chain partners, aiming for identifying, initiating and developing improvement and R&D projects in the supply chain. Information sharing simulation model: a model which simulates the effect of sharing information concerning order policy decisions in the supply chain. Effects on inventory level, transport capacity utilisation, food waste, remaining product shelf life and product availability are simulated. Model/notation for information sharing in grocery supply chain: a notation showing what information will be needed to be shared in a transparent supply chain in order to improve performance. Information dashboard for integrated transport planning between wholesaler and transport provider: a prototype of a dashboard is developed showing the information parameters and interfaces between the grocery wholesaler and transport provider. Integrated process for tactical planning in retails supply chain: Model for integrated tactical planning including suppliers, wholesaler operations and stores. Methodology and tool for ranking food waste: The methodology/tool is applied for ranking frequently wasted food products in stores or warehouses, based on monetary and carbon measures. Demonstrators: two types of demonstrators are developed reflecting major achievements in the project: (1) models and simulations and (2) methods and tools. Retail supply chains constitute a significant part of the Norwegian economy, dealing with a range of different products such as groceries, pharmaceuticals, textiles and electronics. The logistics in retail supply chains is complex and involves a broad spa n of distribution solutions, geographical regions, products, services, markets and suppliers, and products and services are becoming more sophisticated and specialized. Retail Supply Chain 2020 focuses on the food sector due to the specific challenges r elated to the products; e.g. seasonality, demand variability and time constraints due to perishability. There is currently a major shift in consumer behaviour which represents new challenges and opportunities for the retail sector. Customers are demandi ng customisation of services and products, and alternative sales channels like online shopping are gaining popularity. These developments will have important implications for how logistics should be performed, and there is a pressing need to develop new k nowledge and key competence required to create the next generation supply chain strategies and solutions. To meet this need, a multi-disciplinary group of research partners has joined forces with strong industrial partners, exploring the interplay betwee n: 1)New strategies and business models for logistics in complex planning environments 2)Advanced planning and control models 3)Enabling technologies for Auto-ID, business intelligence and data visualisation 4)Models for organisational performance 5)Use c ases 6)Vision, foresight and knowledge arena Project partners are NTNU, SINTEF, University of Tromsø and University of Aalborg from the research side, and Coop, TINE, Fosen Transport, Hrafn, NLP and three representatives from the NordGrønt association of fruit and vegetables suppliers; Sunndalspotet, Trøndergrønt and Håa Gård. To ensure that outcomes are relevant also for non-food retailers, a number of retailers from other sectors will be involved.
