Innovative and Sustainable Entrepreneurship of Biological Resources: Merging Ecological, Social and Economic Sciences

Awarded: NOK 0.13 mill.

EU has to improve green economies, and has therefore promoted strategies to increase bioeconomies. Hence, we have to establish enterprises related to biological renewable resources such as fish, wildlife, plants and their derivatives, as well as products from forestry, crops and livestock. At the same time we have to make sure that we maintain biodiversity for future ecosystem services. The innovation of green economies needs an interdisciplinary approach related to economy, ecology and social sciences. H ere we will create a partnership with institutions specialized in different disciplines of bioeconomy to produce PhD-candidates for an improved stewardship of nature, ranging from the protection of biological diversity to improving the commercialisation a nd management of biological resources. The training will be connected to our International Research School in Applied Ecology funded by The Norwegian Research Council and will also involve formal training of transferable knowledge. For instance we will gi ve courses in communication skills, for instance communication with different interest groups and people with different value orientation, and writing of proposals. Network meetings and workshops will ensure the interdisciplinary approach and competence b uilding among the PhD candidates.
