Advancing tools to address impacts of CO2 and non-CO2 emissions and related uncertainties (ADVANCE)

Awarded: NOK 50,999

Development of proposal for Horizon 2010. Summary of proposal (at this stage): We will focus on short lived species in order to distinguish from "classical" climate change studies, but also consider long lived species, accounting for interaction between climate and atmospheric composition. Emphasis will be on troposphere while the stratosphere will be included as driver of certain (chemical) processes. The project will also apply the advanced models and tools for assessment and quantification of climate impact of transportation and energy sectors since these sectors are large contributors and which will need emission changes in next 10 years. These sectors also have important non-CO2 emissions. The Project will have a strong component on model developmen t and on coupling of climate with socio-economics. The project will also address decision makers and science (with different questions). Short and long lived species are of importance and we will consider long-term climate change and rate of climate chang e. Many short lived species have trade-offs in impact on climate change and air quality. Transport emissions are still growing in EU (and world wide). Energy sector is of particular importance for EU. Apart from these two sectors the emissions of the othe r sectors are easier reduced in EU. The Project will be based on 4 pillars: climate modelling, statistical analysis (uncertainties), socio-economic assessment and emissions.
