Project work description A battery system contains several parts: Cell: Smallest electrochemical unit Module: Assembly of cells including some level of electronic control Sub-Pack: Assembly of 1 or more modules. The smallest unit that can be electrically insulated String: Smallest unit in a battery system with same voltage level as the battery system (e.g. serial connected cells, modules or sub-packs ) Battery system: One or more battery packs including all required systems for the intended purpose The project is divided into two main parts in order to ensure a quick introduction into the market. The first stage is based on using the battery modules that Grenland Energy AS is currently using for its prototype battery system. These modules package a numb er of battery cells into a fixed unit with some electronics for cell protection. For the project, the module electronics will be part of stage 1 of the project. Developing the battery sub-pack, cooling system and other system components as well as related electronics and software will be part of Project stage 1 ? development of battery system based on existing cell modules. Project stage 2 ? development of battery modules will utilize the already developed system. The main issue to be addressed in stage two is to ensure that the long-term cost targets are achieved. The long-term cost targets are met by making the module design flexible and robust enough so that cells from multiple suppliers can be used in the modules.
