CyberSec: Cyber Physical Systems Security using SecReq

Awarded: NOK 69,999

Cyber Physical System(CPS) integrates computation, networking, and physical system so that physical systems can process and monitor through the cyber system. There are many areas such as energy, military, automotive, healthcare, and aerospace are cons idered under the cyber physical system. However, these systems offer huge security risks, because the systems that were previously operated in a closed environment are now addressed via the internet through a complex work flow between the cyber system a nd physical system. Many reports have shown that physical systems are more susceptible to the security vulnerabilities . But these systems need to be secure and dependable to support the ctitcal operations and at the same time robust from all possible attacks. We developed security requirements engineering approach, SecReq, to elicit and analyze security requirements to support the organization when secuirty experts are not always available. The project, CyberSec, will develop and evaluate novel me thod and tool support to support security and dependability assurance for the CPS. It is based on the core SecReq concepts and extends with techniques and methodology for understanding system security dependability , risks and evolution as well as ma naging knowledge and experience towards a secure cyber physical system. The project analyzes security at requirements and design time and monitoring and controlling at run time. We will enable a cross domain security learning platform that can capture experience from various control systems. We will enable a transfer of observations into experience and knowledge to continually improve the learning ability in the tool. We will do a case study based platform and tool development together with the industr ial partners. The case studies will act both as user requirements gathering and platform and tool testing environments.
