OsteoHealth - enabling early osteoporosis prevention

Awarded: NOK 9,999

There is an increasing mismatch between health-related social trends and available financial resources. Implementation of value-creating and sustainable eHealth systems in Europe has been considered for improving quality and efficiency of health services in Europe. Promoting life-long healthy behaviour and active engagement of citizens in their own health has never been more important. One the other side, possibilities for doing this by usage of ICT based technology have never been better. Numerous appli cation have been developed in mHealth and related areas. There are however two major obstacles: one is how to make different health actors deliver services in a holistic citizen centric approach and the other how to enable citizens to use such a system. S ervice providers today have business model which is not targeted to services in a holistic way and users generally have a low health literacy which hinder the uptake. A study recently conducted in eight EU countries has shown that almost half part of the population had limited health literacy, and that patients often stop using mHealth applications and stop following their treatment. Objective: The objective of this project (6 work packages) is to develop and validate a citizen-centric ecosystem and ena bling infrastructure that facilitate personalised health self-management. Services, tools and primary primaryprevention interventions provided by the actors within this ecosystem will adapt to one's health and ICT literacy, preferences, behaviour and chan ging health. The ecosystem will evaluated in the context of early interventions for osteoporosis prevention, with and focus on the osteopenia groups - healthy persons with a decreased bone-density, at risk of having fractures and thus becoming disabled fr om living active and independent lifes. It is expected that hip fractures due to osteoporosis will rise from 1.7 million in 1990 to 6.3 million in 2050 in Europa and USA, thus prevention efforts are needed.
