Project Establishment Support for "Climate Assessment Tool Network for Strategies of Reducing Global Supply Chain Vulnerabilities" (SC5-3b)

Awarded: NOK 4,105

The core objective of the project is to create methods and networks that will enable EU corporations, institutional investors and public sector policy makers to assess global supply chain and production layer vulnerabilities to climate change, including r aw materials and intermediate levels of production, and reduce these through targeted strategies of adaptation, technology transfer and sustainable development in collaboration with governments and finance institutions. This core objective is met through four sub-objectives: (i) to create an international network of collaborating institutions of advanced research, spanning the requisite range of expertise from climate science, policy assessment, business analysis, macro-and-micro-economics, sustainable de velopment, material flow in manufacturing and supply chain assessment; (ii) to develop advanced methodologies and databases that integrate supply chain and production layer analyses for assessing the vulnerability of EU corporations and the macroeconomie s of the EU nations to climate impacts in regions of the world that are within the supply chains and/or production levels for those corporations; (iii) to apply those methodologies, in collaboration with private and public sector partners, in the assessme nt, design and financing of current and projected vulnerabilities of the EU economy to climate change globally, and to assessments of potential interventions aimed at reducing vulnerability via the most reliable and cost effective means as the climate evo lves; and (iv) to place those methodologies and findings into a web-based decision support system that assist participating networks of public and private sector organisations in selecting appropriate strategies for reducing vulnerability (to climate chan ge) of the supply of raw materials and/or intermediate products crucial to EU and the other G20 economies.
