Energy Efficient and Cost Effective Solutions for Deep Renovation of Building Stock

Awarded: NOK 74,122

This proposal is in response to an H2020 Call under Energy Efficiency, Market Uptake; H2020-EE-2014-3-Market Uptake, Sub Call of H2020-EE-2014-2015 (EE-05-2014). The submission deadline is 5 June 2014. The project aims to develop sustainable refurbishmen t solutions for buildings constructed between the 1960s and 1980s. A multi-stakeholder approach will be applied to the development of solutions which will take an overview of the whole process of refurbishment, including social, architectural, technical a nd economic. A comprehensive analysis of technology measures will be carried out to develop innovative solution packages radically different from those currently applied in the sector. In particular, sustainability concepts will be followed through novel solutions in building construction technology, innovative material and installation techniques. The solutions will be chosen and embedded in collaboration with the user community, i.e. building inhabitants and owners, to ensure integration and acceptanc e of solutions at local level as well as economic feasibility. The aim is to achieve minimum primary energy consumption (Near Zero Energy) while maintaining architectural qualities of the buildings. A systematic methodology for optimal building retrofitti ng towards zero emissions will ensure cost effectiveness, scalability and replicability of the interventions. The external (geographical, climatic, resources, social) and internal (envelope, facilities and use) building boundary conditions will be taken i nto consideration. The project aims to contribute to EU objectives in relation to reductions in energy consumption and improvements in the energy-related performance of existing buildings. Energy Performance Certification will be actively encouraged as a driver for renovation of old buildings. The goal is to increase demand in the market for renovation packages for older buildings.
