Transport economics are used in all development of transport policy ? infrastructure planning, maintenance optimisation, pricing, taxation and financing as well as procurement and contract theory ? all important elements of the discipline.
Transport an d traffic safety economics (TSE) is an important part of the transport economic field with issues around regulation, management (regulering og styring) and valuation. Fields with a high degree of international research activities include questions on priv ate safety, altruism and paternalism as well as absolute safety (nullvisjonen), regulation with public pricing as well as private pricing with pay-as-you-go and pay-as-you-speed insurance schemes, safety efficiency studies between modes of transport and a nalyses of socioeconomic efficient policy measures.
Transport economics is a part of the academic discipline of economics but are characterised by its applied tradition. For the Norwegian society as well as academic research it is important that the tra nsport economic research holds a high international standard. This is especially important in a country that plans to use huge resources for the development of the infrastructure and tries to find new forms of financing and organisation.
TØI is an inter nationally well-known research institute with numerous projects within the EU framework programs. To further strengthen the international dimension TØI together with UiO will organise the conference of the International Transport Economics Association (IT EA) in 2015. In 2014 the conference was organised in Toulouse (http://www.tiger-forum.com/itea) and in 2013 in Chicago (the programme 2013 is included).
We expect between 150 and 200 transport researchers from the whole world will come to Oslo June 15th to 19th in 2015. The summer school has an faculty of the best transport economic researchers in the world and is organised together with the UiO.
