Seasonal variability of air-sea CO2 fluxes at the ISA station in Isfjorden, Svalbard

Awarded: NOK 39,349

The research questions to be addressed in this project are; -What is the annual cycle of CO2 uptake in Isfjorden? What is the magnitude of physical (freshwater input, temperature, air-sea exchange) versus biological (net community production) processes on the seasonal uptake of CO2? The seasonal variability of the CO2 system and air-sea CO2 flux will be estimated based on measurements of total alkalinity, pH from monthly samples from the water column at ISA station. Water samples will be taken from different depths and brought back to UNIS for analysis in the laboratory.Full CO2 system and air-sea CO2 flux will be calculated using known formulations and obtained data.
