Project Period:

2015 - 2015

Location:

How to design, synthesize and disseminate communicate knowledge for climate action is a burning question which we would like will to address at a semi-scientific seminar in Oslo in April 2015. It is currently at the centre of the attention, with the IPCC's 5th assessment report just out and the international community preparing for the Paris climate agreement in 2015. In parallel, more and more local authorities and private enterprises are developing their own strategies. Across Europe, there are about two dozen of climate science-policy institutes which have as their mission to bridge the gap between climate science and decision makers. CICERO would like to invite up to 20 representatives, from across Europe, to a one-day semi-scientific seminar to present, discuss and compare research results and experiences. We aim at facilitating long-term cooperation between these scientists, enhancing our respective communication skills and getting input and data for further research and publications. The seminar took place on Tuesday 28 April 2015 at the CIENS conference centre at Oslo Science Park. The findings of the seminar was published in a popularising report and widely disseminated among research institutes, think tanks, environmental NGOs, relevant businesses and the Europe-wide ECCO-network of climate communication officers.

In parallel, more and more local authorities and private enterprises are developing their own strategies. Across Europe, there are about two dozen of spin-off organisations of climate research institutes which have as their mission to bridge the gap between climate science and decision makers. CICERO would like to invite up to 20 leading scientists, from across Europe, to a one-day semi-scientific seminar to present, discuss and compare research results and experiences. We aim at enhancing our communication skills and getting input and data for further research and publications. We will use this opportunity to share and discuss at international scale the results of a research project by the University of Oslo and CICERO, supported by the Norwegian Research Council, entitled Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge as a Policy Instrument in Climate Policy. The seminar will take place on Tuesday 28 April 2015 at the CIENS conference centre at Oslo Science Park. A full day of discussions is envisaged, with up to 12 talks of max. 15 minutes, with a lot of room for discussion, questions and answers. The discussions will be led by Professor Steven Yearley of the University of Edinburg, who has a long track record in both research and practice in this field. We will elaborate a questionnaire to be filled out by all participants in advance, as input for the day's discussions, the report and further research. The findings of the seminar will be published in a popularising report and widely disseminated among research institutes, think tanks, environmental NGOs, relevant businesses and the Europe-wide ECCO-network of climate communication officers.
