A Platform for Medical Image Processing, Transmission and Visualisation

Awarded: NOK 0.56 mill.

This pre-project incorporates plans for writing a main research proposal focusing on developing a platform for innovative medical imaging algorithms, new techniques useful in a number of state of the art medical applications: e.g. image-guided navigation, pill-camera endoscopy, real-time compression and transmission of medical images. This platform will be used to train young researchers allowing them to acquire new skills, knowledge in medical image processing, transmission and visualisation. This project will facilitate further research in medical imaging applications. It will benefit doctors and surgeons with better tools and platforms, thereby ensuring better healthcare services to the community. The steps listed below will be followed in this pre-project: - Identify societal needs for training researchers in using and developing innovative image and video processing and analysis techniques for different medical imaging applications: including but not limited to image-guided surgery, breast cancer imaging, compression, transmission and visualization of medical imaging data. - Conduct background/literature study. - Identify technological solutions addressing these needs. - Identify potential partners as providers of such technologies. - Plan of the writing of the main project proposal. - Communicate and discuss it with the partners. - Coordinate the proposal writing process. - Write the proposal to address the specific requirements in the target ETN-ITN call. - Communicate the ideas in the proposal with the EC officers in Brussels. This pre-project brings in experienced national and international partners with relevant skills and technologies to achieve the goals and objectives of the main project. This project will strengthen existing collaboration among the core team and enlarge it to include new partners with complementary skills, and technology.
