The project aims at creating a city dynamics where traffic issues like congestion and emissions are heavily reduced and where citizens and business to a great extent become independent of conventional transport modes. This will be achieved by the exploitation of smart logistics and wide-spread utilization of citizen centric e-mobility ICT tools. Thus, fossil-free motorized and non-motorized transportation will be managed and planned to optimize dynamic traffic flow in cities and communities.
On the ICT side, arising concepts like the Internet of Things (IoT) and Nexus of the Forces mega trends (i.e. Mobility, Social Media, Big Data, Cloud Computing) provide possibilities for dynamic real-time planning, modelling and simulation of intelligent energy and transportation systems. Implemented in transportation, logistics and traffic management, the IoT will generate huge amounts of data which can be analyzed by Big Data and Real Time Analytics technology and thus form the basis for real-time planning and smart decision support for citizens and their needs for personal transport and transport of their goods.
Through the project, the following scenario shall become real: ?As citizens and transportation alternatives become connected in real-time, citizens can be empowered to choose between the alternatives of their preferences which are managed by their personal Smartphone transport and logistics dash board. Thus, private and public transportation can be planned, organized and utilized in a more efficient manner based on a new local market model for logistics and transportation.
The project will investigate what can motivate citizens to change their transportation behavior and habits when providing alternatives and tools for sustainable transportation and traffic solutions in cities and communities.
