URban heating and cooling supply by Geothermal Energy

Awarded: NOK 59,999

In order to favour the comprehensive understanding on how a sustainable, safe and efficient H&C supply can be realized with geothermal resources, URGE foresees activities related to: ? WP2 Detailed feasibility studies of three test sites, to retrieve reservoir performance, life time and economical details of geothermal exploitation for different H&C technologies. The advantage of considering three particular (but typical) geothermal reservoir is a marked reduction in the otherwise high uncertainties in temperature and flow rates at depth and for a particular region; also various exploitation scenarios in relation to the geological setting can be simulated, enabling further insights regarding the preferred technology to be used. ? WP3 Realization of geothermal resource maps for the various technology of geothermal H&C and CHP: heat in place, geothermal potential maps, capacity of heat exchange for GSHP ? WP4 Collection and organization of information considered meaningful for characterizing areas where geothermal energy exploitation is considered positively or raise concern. It will bring to: 1) An understanding of interesting and informative data and 2) the Assessment of appropriate framework for answering questions of interest. Then, an inventory of case studies (bad and best practices) for geothermal applications will be performed. Eventually, the establishment of a communication strategy and public participation ? WP5 Dissemination of the project activities, results, and contribution to the European Geothermal Information Platform as regarding strategic information in the three countries represented in URGE. These latter in multi-lingual version (English, German, Italian and Norwegian). The dissemination tools will include the project website, publications as well as online questionnaire to key professional groups and public authorities. ? WP1 The management of the whole project, devoted to coordinate and support actions and activities
