Nordic Interdisciplinary Conference on Discourse and Interaction

Awarded: NOK 0.16 mill.

The Nordic Interdisciplinary Conference on Discourse and Interaction (NORDISCO) is a biannual conference series that was established in 2010 to bring together researchers and doctoral students in the Nordic and Baltic region who investigate discourse and interaction from different disciplinary perspectives. The fourth conference in the series is planned to take place in Oslo 25-27 November 2016. The conference will highlight research on the organization, structures and constitution of texts, talk, discourse and social interaction and provide a forum for discussion and debate across disciplinary boundaries. The conference invites contributions from different and diverse fields of enquiry, including discourse studies, conversation analysis, discursive psychology, critical discourse analysis, interaction analysis, rhetoric, narrative analysis, discourse theory, political discourse analysis, social semiotics, multimodal discourse analysis, applied linguistics, gesture studies and communication activism. The field of discourse and interaction research lends itself to interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange, as it explores the relations between text and talk on the one hand, and societal, cultural and psychological contexts on the other. However, researchers in the field are often located in different departments according to traditional scientific disciplines, such as linguistics, communication studies, sociology, pedagogy, didactics, political science, psychology, social anthropology, media studies, and cultural studies. An important aim of this interdisciplinary conference is thus to gather researchers and doctoral students from different traditions in order to facilitate interdisciplinary discussion and collaboration. The main target group is researchers in the Nordic and Baltic countries. Doctoral students are encouraged to attend, and they will be offered a choice of two pre-conference workshops taught by some of the plenary speakers.
