WindScanner ESFRI Interim Phase Participation

WindScanner has been on the ESFRI roadmap since 2010. The WindScanner Interim phase goal is to bring forward the documentation sufficient for an ERIC implementation, and subsequently get commitment of at least 3 or more member states to join through an MoU. Norway can be one of these states as an EEA member. In this process, the governance and draft statutes that have been worked out in the Prepaparatory Phase be amended based on comments and inputs from governments and national contact points. The WindScanner ERIC is expected to be hosted in Copenhagen Denmark. The Hub will have mainly administrative tasks including training and shared data hosting. The equipment will be distributed in the participating countries (distributed infrastructure). Equipment from different countries can be - and has been tested to - be used together in joint international campaigns. The overarching aim of this project is to ensure that the WindScanner facility will suit the interests of the Norwegian research community and industry.

WindScanner.eu is a joint European distributed research infrastructure for wind energy that is on the EFSRI Roadmap 2010 and is seen as strategically important by SINTEF Energi and other leading wind energy research institutes in Europe. SINTEF Energi has participated in the WindScanner Praparatory Phase (PP) project as a national hub, representing all relevant Norwegian research institutes. The project now enters the next phase where focus for the partners will be on establishing and operating an European Research Infrastructure (ERIC). We seek funding from the Research Council for 2 years for continued support in our role as a national coordinator and thereby contribute to the work of the European consortium; to keep and coordinate a national network and clarify how a future Norwegian WindScanner node will be.
