Sedimentation and characteristic of sediments of Hansbukta and Isbjørnhamna (Hornsund) RiS ID: 10391

My project hypothesis is that Hansbreen has the direct influence of the changes of the marine sedimentation processes, especially in Hansbukta. In turn, the dynamic marine processes have a significant influence on the sedimentation processes in Isbjørnhamna. During the summer season 2016, I am going to recognize these sedimentation processes and characteristic of sediments in the seabed. I am planning to use sediment traps, CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, Depth) with turbidity sensor and ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) to know the present sedimentation rate, the oceanographic conditions and the amount of suspension. In turn, recognition of the sediments of the seabed by use the gravitational probe and sub-bottom profiler enable to know the past sedimentation processes. The main goal of my project is recognition of these processes and comparison of them in the two bays located in next each other.
