Seasonal and interannual variability of carbonate chemistry and air-sea CO2 fluxes at the ISA station in Isfjorden, Svalbard

Awarded: NOK 68,999

Project Number:

257098

Project Period:

2016 - 2017

Funding received from:

Location:

The world ocean plays a pivotal role in the progress of climate change and the perturbed global carbon cycle, yet detailed knowledge of marine carbon dynamics is still needed. For instance, the freshwater cycling in Arctic fjords may play an integral role in CO2 uptake. Research questions to address: -What is the variation of CO2 uptake in Isfjorden? - What is the variation of the physical and biological processes that influence the CO2 uptake? The variability of CO2 fluxes will be estimated based on measurements of total alkalinity and pH. Monthly sampling will take place from a small boat at the ISA station.
