The fieldwork carried out in Ny-Ålesund will be a part of the PhD-project "Regional Geometry and Sedimentology of the Lower Palaeogene basin on Svalbard". The main goal of this project is to achieve detailed understanding of the paleoenvironment prior to and during early stages of foreland basin development in the early Paleogene. To investigate the original extent and the overall sedimentology of the basin, data from the entire Central Tertiary Basin on Svalbard will be utilized and compared with Paleogene deposits close to Ny-Ålesund.
