This application is an application for funding to write the main DEMO 2000 application for OBAR Ram Position Monitoring System with its submission date of Feb 2016. Information of the planned DEMO2000 main application which covers: During 2011-2012 Obar AS completed a JIP with Statoil and North Atlantic Drilling to establish an accurate measurement concept based upon a non-intrusive method to determine the location of the internal cylinder of the Blow Out Preventer pairs cutting valves (BOP Rams). It is important during an emergency situation to establish the detailed position of the cutting valve pairs. The initiative was a direct response to the Deepwater Horizon accident in GOM. The JIP was successfully completed and an established method for position location was derived with use of Ultrasonic Measurement principle where the probes where positioned in a special array to accurate investigate the location of the cylinders. This project phase shall now construct and demonstrate a pilot of the measurement system. Detailed engineering has been initiated and performed to establish relevant solutions and suppliers. The objective herein is to construct a system and equip a selected rig and BOP for operational trials. The system is a passive retrofit system which does not break any barriers and it should not impact the rig operation during installation or require re-certifications of the BOP. For this application we will monitor and record one RAM Pair (two cylinders) with its position, enabling to Real-Time track the desired pipe ram pair. We use a special subsea cable as primary communication and power for real-time instant data transfer and prepare for optional Hydro acoustic and a ROV data retriever solution that can retract data if cabled or hydro acoustic communication is for any reason blocked. This way we can by modest investments monitor the location of the RAM closure valves in real time at multiple operational centers.
