StormPetrel - a multipurpose vertical takeoff and landing, unmanned aircraft system

Alternative title: StormPetrel - a multipurpose vertical takeoff and landing, unmanned aircraft system

Awarded: NOK 1.00 mill.

Sevendof AS is a fast-growing startup spinning out of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). We are working to establish a pioneer company within unmanned aerial solutions. Sevendof's first commercial product, StormPetrel, combines the advantages of conventional quadcopter drones and fixed wing airplanes. The applications for StormPetrel are numerous both offshore and onshore. Some of the operations that can be performed cheaper, faster, more environmentally friendly, and most importantly safer than by using conventional manned helicopters, are energy infrastructure inspection, precision agriculture, disaster management, search and rescue, aerial photo and video, delivery and maritime operations. Sevendof is supported by NTNU School of Entrepreneurship, NTNU Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management, NTNU Department of Engineering Cybernetics, and NTNU Department of Engineering Design and Materials. Within a year, we have grown from 1 to 8 engineers and business developers, all with ongoing studies or previously M.Sc.-background from NTNU. By combining the theoretical master thesis with practical building and development skills, our team have a unique implementation capacity. The team consists of several engineers with key roles and hands-on experiences from similar challenges, including DNV Fuel Fighter, Revolve NTNU and Kongsbergs LocalHawk drone project, among others. Sevendof is applying for Forny Student to employ graduating M.Sc.-students from NTNU that will continue development and testing of prototypes together with customers to reduce technical risk and market risk for investors. We aim to take a significant position in the commercial drone industry expected to reach a global market of 11.6 billion dollars in 2023.
