Atlantic Distributed Biological Observatories (Atlantic DBO) workshop

Awarded: NOK 52,999

The Atlantic DBO workshop will initiate coordination of national and international Arctic marine ship based observations in the Atlantic Arctic marine region by inviting the most central nations to a workshop. The aim is to increase the number of observations that can be compiled and synthesized to build a larger and consistent data set and time-series in this remote, but rapidly changing region. We will arrange a two-days workshop in Tromsø, in November 2016. This will be done inspired by the successful implementation of this idea on the Pacific Arctic side, through the project Distributed Biological Observatories (DBO) (http://www.arctic.noaa.gov/dbo/), initiated in 2010. By learning from their experience, and contributing complementary data on the Atlantic side of the Arctic Ocean, we move towards a Pan Arctic observational system, also on data that cannot be collected by automatic observational systems at present. This represent the most feasible a cost-efficient way of observing this rapidly changing region of the Arctic Ocean. This initiating workshop has received support from International Arctic Science Committee marine working group (IASC mwg).
