European Society for Research on Internet Interventions, Conference 2016

Awarded: NOK 49,999

Mental health problems are a major public health concern worldwide. New technologies represent huge opportunities for innovations in the field of mental health. The vision of INTROMAT is to improve public mental health with innovative ICT. The main objective for "INtroducing personalized TReatment Of Mental health problems using Adaptive Technology" (INTROMAT) is to increase access to and quality of mental health services by developing a scalable and flexible technology that can be integrated with existing systems. The system will allow use across individuals, mental health problems and clinical settings, with a documented impact on health. INTROMAT will address critical challenges through following objectives: (1) Establish user involvement in treatment development with the help-seekers, patients, relatives, health personnel, policy makers and health services; (2) Develop monitoring and support systems with continuous adaptive guidance, based on input from wearables and smartphone carried by the user; (3) Develop innovative treatment modules that can be used across problems and contexts; (4) Develop the premises for an architecture supporting a flexible and modular clinical process that can be integrated in the health services; (5) Document the feasibility, validity and clinical efficacy of the treatment technologies; (6) Develop and validate a work-process from clinical needs to clinically tested interventions; (7) Fulfil the innovation potential for industry and the health services transferred to other areas of healthcare. INTROMAT will progress research and development within ICT and psychology. The results of INTROMAT are expected to increase access to evidence-based mental health services, increase digital collaboration between the health services, and increase uptake and use of treatment technologies in the health services.

INTROMAT projects manager (IKTPLUSS FYRTÅRN) Ass. Prof. Tine Nordgreen, together with the European Society for Research on Internet Interventions (ESRII), University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital are organizing the annual ESRII conference on technology and mental health: ESRII2016, 22-23 September in Bergen, Norway. The ESRII is a non-profit organization committed to advancing the scientific approach to studying eHealth interventions. eHealth interventions comprise existing and emerging technologies, including the Internet, mobile devices, digital gaming, virtual reality, remote sensing and robotics. We are organizing this conference to foster excellence in evidence-based eHealth interventions targeting behavioral and mental health. This conference is an important event that brings research groups, clinicians and the industry together for collaboration and the sharing of new ideas and the latest research results. We are expecting attendance of 150 people from all over Europe. The conference is important to the INTROMAT project and consortium, as several members of the Scientific Advisory Council (Heleen Riper, Gerhard Andersson, Per Carlbring, Viktor Kaldo) will attend the conference, together with leading research groups in the filed of eHealth from the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, UK and Spain, who focus on the use of technology in mental health. This will foster international cooperation. Furthermore, there will be a symposium on the INTROMAT project which will increase awareness and acceptance of INTROMATs ideas and project output. Our INTROMAT partners Simula, Bryggen Research, Psyktools, Imatis, Attensi VR and the University of Oslo have already confirmed attendance, together with major research institutions and technology companies from all over Europe. Our conference consists of oral presentations (subdivided in parallel sessions), poster presentations, demonstrations and symposia. a
