TimingTravel : Positioning Norut's timing research as central to H2020 ICT research objectives.

Awarded: NOK 88,250

Norut has developed world class technology for multi-device timing and control. However, adoption of the technology is slow, in particular as the solution is highly disruptive compared to existing approaches and solves a number of very different issues. The technology was central in the "MediaScape" EU fp7 project, which was completed in May 2016 and achieved an "Excellent" rating. The technology is a very good match with upcoming EU calls. There is also a very well suited broadcasting industry in Norway, in particular in Bergen, with whom collaboration in EU projects would be highly beneficial. We therefore seek to improve Norut's position and attractiveness as project partners, essentially by targeting the European research community at TPAC and media industry at IBC, as well as working towards national industry adoption (Bergen). TPAC is the annual technical meeting for the standardization activities within the Web platform, organized by the W3C. This year TPAC has a new slot dedicated to timing and synchronization in the Web, based on Norut research results and standardization initiative. Norut participation in these discussion would be very rewarding. IBC is the top annual event in Europe for media related industries. We are publishing a paper titled "Timing: A small step for developers, a great leap for the industry". However, the paper will not be presented at the conference, so participation is crucial for impact.
