Utvikling av fjernstyrt brannslukkingsrobot for tunneler

Alternative title: Development of remote operated firefighting robot for tunnels

Awarded: NOK 1.00 mill.

KVS Technologies is a company spinning out of the University of Stavanger and the subsea technology environments at the university. Based on the technology and the acquired competence, our goal is to create a strong environment within remote control technology for use in societal safety and emergency preparedness. Norwegian road tunnels are criticized for the lack of effective fire safety measure, which has been pointed out by the Accident Investigation Board in Norway. In a normal event of a tunnel fire the fire departments spend time to ensure own safety before entering the tunnel. These minutes are considered precious with regards to saving lives, but are essential to avoid danger for the emergency services. KVS Technologies' unmanned firefighting robot will enable starting the firefighting work on an early stage, and thus contribute to increased possibilities for rescuing and improved conditions for self-rescue. Our team of engineers with experience within product development and project management provides us with a strong implementation capacity. The team consists of several engineers which has held critical positions and with experience from similar challenges from developing Unmanned Underwater Vehicles for the MATE ROV Competition. KVS Technologies is applying for FORNY StudeENT to keep up the progress in the project by securing wages for key personnel and the required resources for product development and technology verification in cooperation with fire departments and the authorities.
