UHPC (ultra-high performance concrete) is hardly used at all in Norway whereas the material has been used for spectacular structures abroad. The objectives of this project are to develop appropriate mixes for standardized production in Norway and to identify applications with high benefit compared to conventional materials. Potential benefits may be: - Cost savings (due to significant reduction of concrete volume), - Operability (less abrasion, extreme tightness, visual qualities) - Sustainability (less cement and extended durability) - New applications to structures that are not possible with conventional materials Obstacles to widespread use: Use of UHPC for new applications in Norway requires first to resolve challenges wrt mix design, namely the use of local materials, simplified mixing, pumping, casting and curing. Important factors are material properties (strength, carbon footprint and workability) and cost, as well as material handling at mixing plants, quality control, mixing and transportation procedures, casting techniques, etc. By enabling local production, mixing and delivery of UHCP from standard plants, cost and accessibility will be improved. Production of a showpiece shall illustrate the potential for its use in Norway. The project has so far done successful casting of both small scale in laboratory as well as full scale in factory. Since UIA entered the project, they have shared their experiences. Their focus has been more on low size aggregate and larger amount of steel fibre, along what is used currently in Europe. Our focus has been to utilize larger, local aggregate and less fiber, to obtain a lower price and easier entrance to the Norwegian market. A report of current application, and future opportunities in Norway om domestic buildings has been developed, as well as investigations on concrete marine applications, using fish farming and floating offshore wind as case studies More full scale testing has been successfully done at Unicon. Finally, a nordic miniseminar was held, where experiences from this project has been exchanged with other research initiatives in this field.

Established Norwegian mix for UHPX, based on Norwegian materials. Tested in lab, and full scale in prefab-factory and commercial concrete plants. Knowledge increased in all parts of the delivery chain. Conventional and more innovative applications investigated, revealing both possibilities and limitations for current use.
