The National Laboratories for an Energy Efficient Industry - HighEFFLab aims to be the leading platform for experimental research within industrial energy efficiency. HighEFFLab will provide the advanced research facilities required to fulfil the goals of FME HighEFF: to enable 20-30% reduction in specific energy use and 10% reduction in climate gas emissions for the Norwegian industry through spearheading the development and commissioning of emerging, energy efficient and cross-sectorial technologies for the industry. Reaching these goals requires the development and optimization of advanced components, cycles and applications to maximize the energy efficiency in different industrial processes. This includes e.g. novel heat-to-power conversion, heat pumping and drying processes, and components such as heat exchangers, expanders and ejectors.
HighEFFLab will make emerging, sustainable technologies and solutions feasible to the industry through the operation of unique and excellent laboratory facilities in close collaboration with the industry partners and leading international research communities, and through the training of highly qualified PhD and Master students, and post-doctoral fellows.

HighEFFLab will be a joint national laboratory between various departments at SINTEF and NTNU. The facilities will be located at the NTNU campus in Trondheim, ensuring close collaboration between students and researchers. The facilities will also be co-located with the Centre management of FME HighEFF. The RI will be accessible for all the partners in FME HighEFF, covering the main Norwegian industry sectors: metal and material; oil, gas and energy; as well as food and chemical industries.
Having state-of-the-art RI in industrial energy efficiency is crucial to; facilitate research and innovation at the highest international level; attract foreign industrial and research partners; and fulfil the education activities planned in FME HighEFF.
