Project Period:

2017 - 2018

Funding received from:

Alva has invented a new way to produce iron-free electric motors that is fully automated, cost effective and may lead to improved motor performance and reduced weight. By thinking outside the box and combining cutting edge motor design tools with advanced composite materials, Alva aims to change how we look at electric machinery. Alva's technology has so far only been verified in lab tests. With the support from the Research Council's FORNY STUD-ENT program, Alva will be able to develop a functioning prototype of the new electric motor design and thus bring the technology closer to market. The prototype will be developed for a pilot customer in the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industry, but has possible applications in numerous other fields including wind turbines, automotive hub motors and electrical actuators. The prototype's test data will be used to determine what other markets are suitable for Alva's technology. Alva is a company from the NTNU School of Entrepreneurship (NSE). The team has support from the Department of Electric Power Engineering at NTNU and the NTNU School of Entrepreneurship. Alva also has an experienced board of advisors consisting of professors and business developers with the relevant experience and know-how to take the technology through to commercialization.
