AtaTech is a start-up based on the TherRec project, originating from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. The core of the project (TherRec) is technology for recovery of waste heat in internal combustion engines. The technology is based on a known method that is better suited to the purpose, but which also has its challenges. This method has been modified and adapted to engines to maximize recovery of the waste heat. We want to provide higher fuel savings and reduction of emissions. Today's combustion engines utilize little of available energy in the fuel and they are very close to the theoretical limit. Much of the energy is lost as heat primarily through the cooling and exhaust system of the engines. There are few technologies that can replace combustion engines in the near future. Average age of cars (about 10 years) and marine vessels (20 years) is an indication that it will take time. It is therefore important to find solutions that ensure that internal combustion engines utilize a larger proportion of fossil fuel energy. In addition to meeting environmental requirements, this is economically advantageous due to fuel economy. Particularly businesses heavily dependent and which generates high fuel costs have a big advantage in reducing fuel consumption. Even few percentages will give big positive economic results. A skilled team consisting of engineers and an economist drives the project. The team has varied backgrounds that covers the needs of a start-up, which means that we have a strong implementation capability. The project will go through product development and concentrate on the market and customers the next 12 mounts. The funding from Forskningsrådet has a major impact on the commercialization of the technology. The technology will be available much earlier than it would be otherwise.
