International Workshop on Atmospheric Modeling: Climate and Air pollution Impacts in South Asia

Awarded: NOK 59,999

We will organize an international workshop on Atmospheric Modeling of Climate and Air Pollution Impacts in South Asia (AMCAPISA). The workshop will provide a platform for competence building and networking among Norwegian and international researchers on air quality modelling and impact studies with focus on South Asia. The workshop will consist of keynote lectures from recognized experts. Early career scientists will have the opportunity to give oral and poster presentations. Focused group discussions will lead to a perspective paper outlining the current opportunities and challenges in atmospheric-chemistry modeling and the implications for impact studies (i.e. agriculture, health). The workshop further contributes to the CiXPAG project funded through the Research Council of Norway (grant nr. 244551/E10) CiXPAG, in particular, investigates the complex interactions between climate extremes, air pollution and agricultural ecosystems. We do not yet fully understand nor are we able to sufficiently model what the impacts of the combined climate - air pollution effects may be for agricultural ecosystems or human health. This lack of knowledge is particularly challenging considering the threats that climate change and food security are posing to society. The AMCAPISA workshop will contribute to identify current knowledge gaps and help to find societal relevant solutions.
