22nd International Conference on Brain Tumor Research and Therapy

Awarded: NOK 0.20 mill.

The 22th International Conference on Brain Tumor Research and Therapy (ICBTRT) were held at Solstrand, Norway in the period 24-27 June, 2018. ICBTRT represents one of the oldest and most prestigious international brain tumor conferences in the world, where prominent international key experts attended from North-America, Europe and Asia (by invitation only). The number of participants were set to 170, where all participants gave oral presentations (see enclosed programme). The meeting was a success as exemplified by the fact that new research and clinical data were presented that received press attention world-wide.

In 1975, the first US Conference on Brain Tumor Research and Therapy was initiated by Dr. Charles Wilson and Dr. Victor Levin at the University of California in San Francisco. The first and following US meetings took place at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, California on a bi-annual basis. The meeting was arranged by the scientists themself (bottom-up approach, -not affiliated to any academic society). The idea behind the conference was to assemble and isolate the best scientists and clinicians to come together in order to find better ways to treat malignant brain tumors. These meetings became, based on their very high quality, international in the beginning of 1990. Since that time, until today, ICBTRT has mainly been held on a bi-annual basis where the meeting venue has alternated between North-America, Japan and Europe. Yet, the meeting format is the same, i.e, to assemble the best scientists world-wide to come together to discuss recent developments in research and therapies for malignant brain tumors. The ICBTRT organization is still not affiliated to any society or organization. This makes ICBTRT completely unbiased since conference support from companies and pharma industry is not within the ICBTRC policy. ICBTRT brings the world-experts in brain tumour research together, -where latest developments in basic, translational and clinical research are discussed. It should be emphasized that the ICBTRT has a limit of 200 participants who are selected from the top scientists and clinicians world-wide. Based on the high quality of the conference ICBTRT has a lot of prestige. That our research environment has been selected to host the ICBTRT in 2018 represents an international recognition of our scientific environment and work.
