Laerdal Medical's mission and vision are as follows: - "Helping save lives" - "No one should die or be disabled unnecessarily during birth or from sudden illness, trauma or medical errors." The development of a patient simulator with features for endovascular intervention supports the mission and vision: 1) Cultivating simulation gives more efficient collaboration between teams in hospitals and reduced "Door To Needle Time", through a) improved decision making, b) better communication and c) improved patient hand over between teams. 2) Good simulation training for teams leads to reduced time prior to intervention, and will give a substantial positive impact for the individual patient, as well as the whole society by a) improved survival rates, b) shorter time for rehabilitation and c) improved quality of life for the patient. 3) Simulation gives enhanced competence and practical skills for hospital personnel through, a) good basic education, and b) frequent in-situ re-training.

The project outcome will be an emergency patient and endovascular procedure simulator, the SimMan Vascular. The simulator will consist of a life size patient simulator with functionality that allows the user to train on emergency care and relevant endovascular procedures. The endovascular simulator system in the SimMan Vascular consists of a series of sensors and haptic feedback components, where endovascular instruments can be inserted, simulating the real procedures in a realistic way. The patient simulator is connected to a computer and two external screens, where a simulated x-ray screen of the intervention can be shown. The base functionality of the SimMan product includes CPR training, administration of medication, intubation, defibrillation, and many other emergency care tasks. To increase patient safety and patient value, multi-disciplinary team training within minimally invasive procedures is critical to the procedural success. The SimMan Vascular will improve critical time management, decision making, communication and handovers between departments. Our novelty solution includes training scenarios for Cardiac Arrest, Acute Ischemic Stroke and Vascular Trauma. Our product will be sold to university hospitals, medical training centres and military medical training units. It will be sold via Laerdal's network of distributors. When sold separately, the new puncture access device will be sold through Mentice's network of distributors. The project will also include a new professional services business model where we can adapt the training procedures to a hospital's specific routines for treatment and patient handovers. Mentice will get access to a broader client base through Laerdal's distribution network with around 8500 installations of high end patient simulators. Laerdal will broaden their offering to their existing clients by offering a more advanced patient simulator, as well as getting access to new clients through Mentice's client base.
