Material cards for numerical simulations

Alternative title: Materialkort for numeriske simuleringer

Awarded: NOK 4.5 mill.

Using numerical simulations in design is a strategy that has been adopted by many companies in several business sectors. The main reason is to reduce design and production costs, which is particularly important for companies doing mass-production in high-cost countries. Material data is often the limiting factor for the accuracy of these numerical simulations. However, material data is in today’s market not available at the right cost, time, or quality. There is an outspoken industrial desire for a company that can provide high-quality material data in a timely manner. The foundation for this FORNY2020 application, Matcards, is technology developed in SFI SIMLab and SFI CASA at NTNU during the last decade combined with the credibility of the SIMLab research group in the industry. By streamlining this technology, a company using the Matcards approach can offer high-quality material data at unrivaled time and cost. Several dedicated industrial partners will contribute to the development and verification of the system to ensure that the products are relevant in an industrial context. When the technology is sufficiently optimized it is possible to obtain faster speed of delivery and higher credibility of material data compared to existing solutions, which in turn will increase the confidence in and use of numerical simulations in product design processes. The FORNY2020 program is essential to verify the technology and adapt it to the needs of the industry.
