RISIS-II (Research Infrastructure for Research and Innovation Policy Studies)

Awarded: NOK 59,999

The project is designed to further integrate and 'open' research data infrastructures for the transnational access in the fields of science, technology and innovation. RISIS-II builds on the RISIS-I project under FP-7 (risis.eu). The goal is that RISIS-II will expand the formative user base of the data-sources amassed so far, that it will enlarge and strengthen the offered services, and that it will foster the innovation role of such infrastructures so as to ensure the long-term sustainability to their integration. The project builds an architecture (‘infrastructure’) to this end. The architecture consists of a range of interlinked and enriched data-sets, a set of interactive services, as well as an advanced research community. There are three dimensions to the activities: networking, access and research. a. The project will build out architecture made up of constellations of individual data-set(for example, a tailor-made registry of European universities) which can be further enriched via links to other data-set in the architecture (e.g. university rankings) as well as to outside data-set. b. The project will provide data services, primarily in the form of user-dashboards which will provide ‘virtual transnational access’ to one or more linked data-set. In addition, data-services will include semantic-web based tools for accessing and integrating external data-sets relevant for the research community, as well as treatment and visualization services. c. The project develops an ‘advanced research community’ which consists of social-scientists and computer scientists. This community will design and deploy the architecture, ensure the quality and consistency of the data-sets, as well as provide guidance to the wider user-community in the form of documentation and fielding specific questions. The project team will also conduct some research using the data-sets while hosting visiting researchers and conducting tailored-made courses for PhD students, etc.
