Forskergrupper ved Institutt for fredsforskning (PRIO)

Awarded: NOK 4.7 mill.

The grant (RCN reference 284388) has been earmarked for 3 specific research groups at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO): Humanitarianism, Law and Ethics, and Regions and Powers. The purpose has been to enable these research groups to engage in networking and international collaboration, develop and submit applications for new projects, support scholarship positions and other competence-enhancing measures, and other work of strategic nature and relevance. It has been a prerequisite that the work carried out with support from the HUMEVAL grant is focused on the respective groups' research agendas, theories and methods, including further development of these. Through a wide range of activities such as workshop/conference events, conference participation in Norway and abroad, guest researcher stays (that is, external experts who have stayed at PRIO, as well as PRIO researchers having visited and stayed at universities and other relevant institutions abroad), development of project proposals to, among other things, the EU system (Horizon 2020 as well as ERC), and support for a PhD project on the humanitarian dimension in military operations, we are of the opinion that the project has fulfilled its objectives as mentioned in the grant letter from the Norwegian Research Council of 08.02.2018. For a closer description of the respective activities, we refer to progress reports submitted to the Research Council on an annual basis, as well as the narrative part of this final report for the project.

Amongst other things, the activities undertaken and funded by the HUMEVAL scheme at PRIO have generated effects as follows; - An already existing range of international contacts and networks has been expanded, built upon and further developed, by means of bringing experts to Oslo for conferences and workshops, as well as PRIO staff participating in relevant conferences and events elsewhere. - Competences within research topics relevant to the three research groups have been further developed and updated. - Proposals have been developed and submitted to relevant funding schemes, with considerable success in terms of diversifying funding sources and developing new research portfolios. - Outreach to relevant audiences in various channels, including stakeholders outside academia such as policy actors, civil society, and international organizations.
