COMPAX - Development of smart waste compactors for paper towels

Alternative title: COMPAX - Utvikling av smarte avfallskompaktorer for tørkepapir

Awarded: NOK 1.00 mill.

COMPAX will develop and sell smart waste compactors for paper towels. The technology that constitutes the compactor is developed by students at NTNU. By compacting paper towels, this will release up to 10 times more volume in the waste bin, and reduce the number of plastic bags consumed. In addition, a smart system will collect data, which can be used to optimize operations among cleaning staff. The data may also be used to predict user patterns in restrooms. COMPAX's solution has proven to be an attractive solution among large institutions with high costs and complex logistics associated with cleaning and waste management. The underlying technology of the waste compactor is verified through laboratory tests. Furthermore, COMPAX plan to develop a functional prototype in collaboration with a pilot customer. The funds from the FORNY STUD-ENT project will be used to develop a functional MVP. Testes are scheduled to be conducted in collaboration with pilot customers. The goal is to map the functionality and properties of the waste compactor. The test results will be utilized in further development of the product. COMPAX Solutions AS was established as a student startup at NTNU School of Entrepreneurship. COMPAX's core team has extensive experience in product development from former startups and student associations. The team members are academically affiliated to different departments at NTNU in Trondheim, including the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Additionally, COMPAX has engaged several mentors and contributors who will assist the core team in technological development and commercialization to further accelerate the project.
