Reindustrializing Europe: personalized goods and services in advanced manufacturing enabled by novel ICT technologies.

The proposed project focuses on establishing key solutions for producing personalized goods and services in the advanced manufacturing industry enabled by novel ICT technologies i.e. IoT,ML,Big Data, and AR.The need for mass customization is huge as customers are becoming more self-expressive,and looking for ways to differentiate themselves.This means a shift is needed from mass production to mass customization,a manufacturing trend that will respond fast to changing customer needs and demands in these competitive times. It should be noted that the EU has lost over 3.8 million jobs in manufacturing since 2008.EU industry is a world leader in several manufacturing sectors, e.g. mechanical engineering,with a 37% global market share,& sector is worth €7000b in turn over,with 30m employed directly.To remain competitive,& halt the decline of the manufacturing sector,the EU industry must focus on customer-centric advanced manufacturing.To be able to develop the market of personalized goods and services,the project will use advanced ICT technologies to develop innovative supply chains with new structures that are able to cater the needs of the mass customization market.Furthermore,automated manufacturing processes will be established with the help of ICT technologies to speed up the manufacturing process & further strengthen the development of personalized goods & services market.Focus will be placed on establishing business models with service innovation,especially PaaS (Product as a Service),& establishing system delivery rather than product delivery. The personalized goods and services market is substantially lagging behind in adapting novel digital enterprise solutions to accelerate processes and implement new business models, due to hurdles such as poor execution, complex and costly operations, premium sales margin which are hindering the development of this market. Hence, this proposal will target more novel and customer oriented solutions for mass customization.
