Conference: "5th Genome Maintenance Meeting / 3rd Turning the Tide of Antimicrobial resistance meeting" (GMM5/TTA3)

Awarded: NOK 99,999

In this joint conference "5th Genome Maintenance Meeting” / 3rd Turning the Tide of Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) meeting" (GMM5/TTA3), we will focus on genome dynamics, AMR and new drug design. The GMM5 / TTA3 meeting will highlight recent progress in the understanding of how DNA transfer pathways and defects in genome maintenance systems generate AMR. The GMM5/TTA3 brings together distinguished speakers and scientists who all have devoted their work towards genome maintenance and AMR and addresses frontline science in an innovative multidisciplinary manner. The program, ample discussions, poster presentations /poster discussion and panel discussion will promote new synergies and networking, with an emphasis on promoting young scientists. GMM5 is already supported by UiO:Life Science. Since our former successful conferences GMM4 (www.gmm4.com) and TTA2 (https://www.ous-research.no/amr/), aimed at promoting Nordic interactions and collaboration on AMR-related topics, we will now broaden our scope and promote global interactions and collaborations. With the GMM5/TTA3 event, we have invited leading scientists to discuss AMR in a global perspective and present, discuss and challenge each other. At the same time, unravelling the mechanisms driving the abundant horizontal gene taking place in nature and in the human body is of prime importance. Understanding DNA repair and horizontal gene transfer mechanisms requires an interdisciplinary approach of molecular biology and bacterial physiology. Several new components specific for these processes are yet to be discovered and a more complete understanding of the entire DNA metabolism in bacterial organisms is required. The GMM5/TTA3 meeting will highlight recent progress in the understanding of and interactions between components of DNA transfer pathways and horizontal gene transfer. In turn, these mechanisms drive AMR development and represent novel drug targets.
