GLOW - Generative Linguistics in the Old World, 7-11. May 2019

Awarded: NOK 0.19 mill.

The University of Oslo will be hosting the 42nd GLOW conference (Generative Linguistics in the Old World) in the period of 7-11 May 2019. Generative linguistics is a major theoretical framework within the language sciences, and GLOW is by many considered the major European organization in formal theoretical linguistics. The annual GLOW conference has for years frequently been listed among the three top conferences in general linguistics (NELS, WCCFL, GLOW), of which GLOW is the only conference that is based in Europe (the other two being based in the United States). Correspondingly, these conferences count as competitive and prestigious. The 42nd GLOW conference in Oslo will consist of a three-day main session (8-10 May) and three workshops (two on 7 May, one on 11 May). To maintain the highest possible quality of main session talks, which is one of the core factors that contribute to GLOW's international prestige, GLOW is a single-session conference, i.e. there are no parallel sessions. The main session talks will be accompanied by two large poster sessions (with 25 posters each). Recent GLOW conferences had approximately 250 submitted abstracts (with numbers steadily increasing) from all parts of Europe, North America, and Asia. By hosting GLOW 42 in 2019, the University of Oslo will thus strengthen its position at the forefront of theoretical linguistics.
