2nd International Joint Conference on Global Change - Quality of Life in an Age of Global Change

Awarded: NOK 99,999

Over the last decades significant effects of the human activities have been observed on our planet. Maybe the most important phenomena are the alarming changes in the global climate and the extensive pollution that affects many ecosystems. These effects have created new threats to the societies. New human and animal disease are emerging, while the need for more sustainable energy and food sources has become more pressing than ever. Bringing together various experts, from different fields and sectors and presenting their opinions to the public, is one of the most important step towards raising the awareness of the societies regarding the global changes. This conference will present various topics on five broad thematic areas: urban development, sustainable food production, the future of energy production, health (with emphasis on the interactions between humans, animals and environment) and sustainable bio-economy. We intent to invite various experts, from many different disciplines, from academia, industry as well as governmental bodies. Our aim is that different, and hopefully thought-provoking opinions, can be heard and stimulate discussions among the participants. Thus, the scope of the planned international conference is to be quite broad and multidisciplinary. The conference will strengthen further the already successful collaboration between Nord University and the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice, in Slovakia. There is currently one established joint bachelor program in Animal Science, while there is mobility of staff (both academic and administrative) between the two institutions. It should be noted that there has also been a project to examine the possibility to development a joint PhD program. Furthermore, the conference will be an excellent opportunity to establish new and develop further existing national and international collaborative networks and to plan future joint grant proposals within relevant thematic areas.
