A European PRImary care Multi-prOfessional Researcher network (PRIMORE)

Alternative title: Et europeisk nettverk tverrprofesjonelt nettverk for primærhelsetjenesteforskning

Awarded: NOK 0.80 mill.

The objective of this proposed project is to strengthen the synergy between and the internationalization of Norwegian research in care services and in primary care. We hence have established and will develop further a researcher network in Europe (PRIMORE) with the aim to create opportunities for care services researchers and primary care researchers from different disciplines, sectors and countries to develop and share knowledge for the benefit of care services' research and primary care research and, eventually, the quality of the services in Europe. The network represents a broad range of European countries, including southern, central and eastern European countries, and also Israel and Turkey. Insufficient coordination is a major cause for lack of responsiveness and poor efficiency of health systems. A strategy of Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) appears to be part of the answer, with a focus on integration of care and the enhancement of coordination among primary care services. This strategy can further facilitate coordination between primary care and other levels and types of services, and alignment of delivery and organization of primary care to meet the needs of local communities. This network will contribute to improve the evidence for COPC and is organized in four thematic working groups: Healthy ageing, Mental Health, Organization of health and care services, and, Prison health and primary care. Main activities of the network past year have been: 1. A PRIMORE workshop at the European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC) yearly conference, 6th – 7th September 2021. Centre for Care Research at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences was hosting the conference. Due to the Covid-19 situation the conference was online. 2. A PRIMORE workshop was arranged as an in-person physical event in Bergen 16th-17th of June 2022, also this time with the Centre for Care Research at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences hosting the event. 3. Monthly online international research seminars 4. A new and in-person Masterclass (nr.2) for young European researchers was arranged in Bergen in June 2022, connected to the workshop. The first one was arranged virtually 27th-29th of September 2020. 5. Further development of Position papers. Two of the work groups, Mental health, have already published each their position paper, and the work group Organization of care have had their position paper accepted for publication, all three in the scientific journal Primary Health Care Research & Development. This is a Level 1 journal (in the Norwegian classification system) committed in particular to publication of position papers. One other position papers, from the work group Healthy Ageing, was submitted to the same journal August 2022.
